SEO Tool Overview: Google Data Studio
Raise your hand if you’re tired of logging in and out of analytics tools.
OK, now put your hand down before it gets awkward in your office. Let’s face it, logging in and out of tools to get all of the information needed to plan future marketing campaigns can be downright annoying.
Now, what if I told you there’s a tool that shows you pretty much everything you need to see in one place?
Mind blowing, right?
That’s why I wanted to tell you all about Google Data Studio.
Google’s Data Visualization Tool
Google has a tool that makes analyzing data easier by connecting over 250 data sources.
All you have to do is log into Google Data Studio, and begin creating a dashboard by connecting data sources. Data from Google Analytics, Adwords, DoubleClick Search, Bing Ads, SEMRush, MailChimp, YouTube and more can be integrated into the tool to display various KPIs.
How It Works
Data Studio integrates data for users to analyze and create reports. A customizable dashboard allows users to pull the most important data and then it can be shared with others, just like Google Drive files.
The secret to using Data Studio effectively is creating dashboards that tell you exactly what you want to know. For example, you could create a report that displays:
- SEO Traffic trends over the past year or two
- SEO Conversion trends over the past year or two
- Keyword rankings, along with how the rankings have changed month over month
- SEO Traffic by device type
Google Data Studio is meant for you to bring together metrics from different sources to give you a better visualization of the progress you're making with your campaigns. All of the data can be dragged and dropped onto the dashboard. Simply choose the data source, the metric, and place it where you want it on your dashboard.
Setting up an insightful dashboard can be a bit cumbersome when you’re just starting out, so you may want to use the available templates. The templates provide a good starting point, and changes can be made based on needed data.
You can find Google Data Studio templates all over the Internet, including in Google’s Report Gallery.
Here are some other options for templates to help you get started:
All you have to do with these templates is copy them to your Google Data Studio, and plug in your connections.
An added feature of this tool is you can change the look of it. Find the Theme settings to modify the Style properties. You can choose a different theme from the list provided, and then alter the colors, font, and text color.
Pro Tip: Keep branding consistent by using the color palette. The color palette can be built out in Theme settings. The ColorPick Eyedropper can identify the colors in your logo if you don’t have them handy.
Sharing the Dashboard
You have the data and it looks pretty, so now you want to share it with your team members. All you have to do is go to REPORTS.
Click the 3 vertical dots to the right of your report name to give you the share option.
The familiar “Share with others” dialog will appear and then you can either share it or copy the shareable link.
