US Family Health Plan’s Mail Offers an Alternative
Military family members have several healthcare options available to them, as noted by this direct mail piece.
Mailer Name: US Family Health Plan
Date Mailed: October 2015
But, as the copy on the front panel adds, “Your country is giving you a better one.” USFHP is a Department of Defense-sponsored health plan. It provides TRICARE Prime benefits to family members of active-duty military, as well as retirees. It operates in six regions covering sixteen states.
Patriotic touches run strong across this four-panel self-mailer. One panel includes a photo of a Marine in his dress uniform holding a child’s hand on a beach. And, red, white, and blue stars substitute for bullet points in lists in several places.
One inside panel runs down basic features offered by the plan, like a “simple application process” and “Easy Referral process.” Another panel consists of a single chart that allows the customer to compare their current costs with those of USFHP.
But healthcare can be quite complex. A single panel lists the dates and locations of meetings at or near military installations to explain the plan in greater detail.
To compete in the marketplace, even government-sponsored entities need to explain benefits and costs to potential customers.
