Denny's Zinger: Polls Are For the Birds
A sometime-correspondent sent me the link to an international think-tank website with the following:
According to the poll conducted by ICM Research, 62 percent of Germans think that Brussels should become more independent from Washington, while 38 percent of French citizens and 39 percent of Britons share the same opinion.
That'll change when Putin sends his jackbooted thugs marching West.
Alas, I have deep contempt for all polls—and pollsters.
This, from The Washington Post:
Only 36 percent of Americans can name the three branches ...
A lot of your fellow Americans don't know much about this document ... of Americans can actually name the three branches of government the ... same citizenship test that immigrants do when they come to the U.S. That group ...
I'm sure this is true around the world. Average folks—those who are polled—are consumed with their cash-strapped lives. What to buy for dinner, squalling babies, the cat bringing home a dead mouse, engine knock in the car, grandpa's incontinence, you name it.
Ask that person about Jeb Bush, Elizabeth Warren, North Vietnam, Cuba or the environment and they'll parrot the last thing said by the Rehab Addict addict neighbor down the street.
Takeaways to Consider
- The only valid measurement of anything is to make competing offers and see which one brings in the most cash.
- Polls are for the birds. Put out sunflower chips vs. nijer seed and see which you run out of first.
