Newegg’s Email Competes for the Customer’s Attention
When holiday shopping ramps up, you need to get your prospect’s attention in the email inbox however you can.
Mailer Name: Newegg
Date Emailed: November 25, 2016
First, the subject line teases an exclusive sale: “Black Friday UNLOCKED Sale: Email-Only Deals on Tech.” This is not a common tactic for the company. From time-to-time, it has also promoted mobile- or app-only sales as well.
Second, an animated gif appears in the body of the email. “UNLOCK BLACK FRIDAY,” the copy slowly announces. “Our BIGGEST email sale of the year,” it helpfully adds. Light pulses from a padlock graphic on a larger image of a smartphone's lockscreen. Clicking or tapping anywhere leads to the company’s website, where Black Friday sales items are highlighted. The call to action button at center reminds the customer of the limited time nature of the sale.
The block below teases additional sales. With no explanation, it shows a golden ticket for the “Black Friday Ultimate Sale.”
Immediately following are a few of the 24-hour specials. At top, a promo for a laptop stretches across two columns. Like the smaller blocks for other items, it lists some basic specs as well as a sales price for the hardware. Other blocks give the shopper other options. And one dangles an incentive to use an American Express card when buying.
Use gifs sparingly to draw attention to your email, while not fatiguing your audience.
