International Addresses - Plan Ahead
Get Chummy with your Printer
When it comes to ink-jetting foreign addresses on your catalog, don't assume your printer or lettershop can seamlessly incorporate foreign records into the next mailing it does for you. A little advance planning on your part will prevent a last-minute panic call from your vendor.
Plan ahead and leave adequate room for an international address when designing your catalog. Most U.S. addresses are four or five lines in length and can fit within a 1˝ label. International addresses often run six lines or more and require a larger label area. Make sure your addresses fit within the height and weight requirements of your label or target print area.
Next, check with your printer or lettershop to make sure it is capable of ink-jetting these additional lines onto the catalog cover. If so, will it tack on additional printing costs?
As the familiar saying goes: When in doubt, ask. A little work on the front end can save time and money on the back end.
