Increased Spam, Phishing Attacks Top List of E-mail Marketer Challenges for 2009
Increased spam and phishing attacks, as well as increasing e-mail and image blocking by ISPs, top the list of marketers' concerns for 2009, according to a recent Goodmail Systems-sponsored survey conducted by JupiterResearch.
The survey asked 202 e-mail marketers in October what challenges related to the success of their e-mail marketing initiatives over the next 12 months most concerned them. Marketers cited "increased spam and phishing attacks" as their most likely anxiety, with 53 percent of respondents calling them a top concern in 2009, followed by "further e-mail and image blocking by ISPs" (45 percent).
By comparison, fewer survey respondents were concerned about "slowing consumer spending" (40 percent), their ability to stay relevant with subscribers (27 percent) and securing adequate budgets for their programs (16 percent).
Just 11 percent said they believe their e-mail programs are threatened by "increased consumers' preference for social and mobile communications."
