Robocall About a ‘Free Cruise’ Could Yield $900 Per Consumer
The lawsuit is Charvat vs. Resort Marketing Group in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois.
Among the defendants are Royal Caribbean Cruises, LTD, Carnival Corporation and PLC and NCL (Bahamas) LTD. Those cruise lines employed the Aurora, Ill.-based Resort Marketing Group to attempt to fill cabins on the three companies’ various cruise ships, according to the lawsuit.
In the lawsuit, the plaintiff, Philip Charvat of Ohio, states he received a call in 2012 that said he had won a cruise because he had filled out a form. He suspected the call was the result of a machine-dialed form of telemarketing, which is "an impermissible advertising campaign for their services, including the making of prerecorded/artificial message telephone calls."
