When the Internet arrived big time in the 1990's, a gazillion hotshot kids — with zero experience in marketing and design — took over and set the protocols. These kids said to us geezers: "This is the new medium and the new paradigm. Your old rules are dead. We make the rules now. So take a hike, buster."
On Wednesday, Staples announced it acquired Office Depot. That same day, a U.S. Postal Service workers union opposed the merger. "We will urge the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission to block this monopolistic and unlawful merger now, just as they did 17 years ago," says APWU President Mark Dimondstein. Then Google delivers the purchases to customers the same day in Manhattan, Peninsula, San Francisco, San Jose and West Los Angeles. Shoppers in Northern California receive overnight delivery.
