"Discount Air Carrier May Bump Bud Lite Over Air-Safety Joke"
The Wall Street Journal, Oct. 24, 2005
What follows is the script of a radio commercial for Bud Lite that the discount airlines objected to.
Bud Lite Presents Real Men of Genius
Today we salute you Mr. Discount Airline Pilot Guy.
Your minimal experience flying a plane will never land you at a reputable airline.

Sure we're concerned for our lives.

The most direct route to Houston through Fort Lauderdale, with layovers in Detroit, Vancouver and Kalamazoo
So crack open a Bud Lite, O' Skipper of the Skies.
You put the fly in fly-by-night operation.
--Bud Lite Beer, Anheuser-Busch, St. Louis, Miss.
The folks at AirTran Airways are so offended that they may cease to offer Anheuser-Busch products in flight.
The management of Southwest Airlines, which has flown without a single fatality for over 30 years, is also very unhappy. "To joke about safety is awful," said Southwest's Ed Stewart. "It's out of bounds."
This raises the question: What is the purpose of advertising?
Bud Lite's Appalling 'Real Men of Genius' Series
Anheuser-Busch is the 43rd largest advertiser in the United States with expenditures of $817.3 million in 2004. Its main product is beer--Bud and Bud Lite. Roughly one out of every five beers consumed in this country is a Bud Lite.
