Mailer Name: Sprint
Date Emailed: February 18, 2016
The email’s subject line makes it sound very simple: “Here's how you can save 50% with Sprint.” When opened, the prospect is greeted with a gigantic yellow circle. The copy Inside: “Switch to Sprint and save 50% on Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile rates.” To emphasize the point, “50%” is in bold type several sizes larger than the rest of the copy. The only disclaimer is in mouse type at the bottom of the circle.
Next, a paragraph follows and describes “An offer too good to pass up.” It pledges: “No gimmicks. No tricks.” One by one, the copy runs through Sprint’s competitors. For each one, it promises 50% savings on most of their rates. And, it guarantees that the savings until 2018. The call to action is a yellow button or a toll-free number.
The next block down provides more information for wavering customers. A bar graph shows how Sprint’s download speeds compare to other companies. This is an important consideration for many consumers.
Finally, the email offers a choice of incentives to switch to Sprint. One option gives the new customer a trade-in credit for buying one of two specific phones. The other offers to pay up to $650 in switching fees.
Don’t be afraid to go after your competition by name, but be sure to back up your assertions with facts.
