Search Engine Rankings: Be No. 1
Andrew Hazen, founder and CEO of Prime Visibility, an Internet marketing company, offers the following tips to help get your company Web site the best search engine ranking possible.
Keywords: “Choose your keywords wisely,” says Hazen. “This may sound like common sense, but it’s an error that repetitively gets made and can be easily fixed.” Use keywords that are synonymous with your business, product or service. Avoid overly used and generic single keywords that will get overlooked.
Title Tag: The title tag is the words that appear at the top left of your Web browser and in most instances the clickable link that will appear in the search engines. Most search engines weigh title tags very heavily. Be sure to use the title tag effectively. Examples to avoid: “Welcome to our Web site” “Home” and “Bob’s Web site.”
Targeted Keyword Phrases: “Search engines want text and so do your customers,” says Hazen. “Flash Web sites and graphic intensive Web sites without text will not achieve high rankings in the search engines.” Use targeted keyword phrases in the page copy to gain multiple hits.
Take Action: Submit your site to major search engines and directories. Search for other relevant sites and specialized directories to contact and request links to your site. “Being proactive is key in internet marketing and search engine optimization,” according to Hazen. “In order to maximize your Web presence following these few simple steps will get your business more visibility and hopefully boost your business, product or service.”
Numerous other variables can be built into Web sites that will assist in obtaining high search engine rankings.
