Shopping online for office supplies doesn’t have to be boring and dull, as this email proves.
Mailer Name: Poppin
Date Emailed: June 27, 2016
Poppin is an Internet startup retailer of office supplies, furniture, and technology products. Rather than bottom-line pricing, the company relies strongly on emotional appeal in its marketing. “A home office that inspires,” reads the subject line. The pre-header echoes the same sentiment: “Make work beautiful.”
First, the logo at the top is bright orange, a fun color that stands out against a white background. Next to it is a simple slogan: “work happy.” The first image shows a work desk in a home setting. The items are organized neatly on it, with a computer at the center. A customer can tap on the button at center to shop for thousands of items.
Next, the following two blocks focus on more of the product details. The first uses a larger image and long description to sell the computer riser shown in the top picture. The next image shows storage boxes in several colors, and adds a description of their benefits. In both, a button lets the shopper click through to find and customize those items.
Finally, at the bottom of the email, Poppin offers reassurance: “We’re here for you.” It provides both a phone number and a chat link.
Bright colors and short copy are two great ways to make customers feel comfortable shopping.
