#Profitable: Instagram Readies New Ad Type
Will this ad look better with the Instagram filter Kelvin? Or maybe Toaster? Oh, I know! X Pro II. That's it, perfect. While marketers have been debating what filter works best for their Instagram ads ever since the photo-sharing social network debuted advertising in the fall of 2013, soon they'll be able to use several — all at once.
No, not by overloading a number of filters onto one photo, but by using several photos in a single post, thanks to Instagram's new carousel ad option. Responding to a common criticism, Instagram announced that it's "heard from marketers that they want to tell sequenced stories in beautiful, compelling ways that lead to meaningful results for their businesses."
Featuring a clean, intuitively swipeable look, the carousel ad format is rolling out "on a limited basis." Furthermore, Instagram noted that "in the coming weeks, you may see carousel ads and might notice variations of the format as we learn what people are most interested in and what performs best."
Another interesting addition is the inclusion of links within posts, a feature long in the waiting. Gone are the days of having to include "Link in bio" with your photo's caption, totally ruining the flow and impact of your message.
While these features are as of yet untested, it seems like Instagram — one of the most used and fastest-growing social networks — is going the distance towards making itself a viable option for digital marketers.
