This Marketing Life: Industry Experts Talk 2017
2016 is coming to a close — another year on the books! In this edition of Target Marketing, you can read all about our favorite 2016 moments in “We Love 2016.”
However, there’s no slowing down because 2017 is just around the corner. So, what should marketers be thinking about in the upcoming year? Here’s the inside scoop from four industry experts.
“I think we are going to see continued growth in the video space, and linked to that is live-streaming. Whether that’s Periscope — Twitter’s app for live-streaming where 40 years of video is streamed each day — Facebook Live or YouTube, who just announced they are getting in on live video. That’s a huge area of change right now and one that will continue to move towards that expectation of ‘now.’”
“I feel like marketers are still struggling with the now. I think people should be less concerned with what’s to come and more concerned about really executing well the opportunities we have in front of us.”
“The base of it is to always understand the consumer. With so much data that’s available, we have an enormous capacity for understanding consumer behavior. The trick is to be able to take that information and turn it into a creative execution that somebody actually wants to see. “
“One trend that we’ve already begun to see is merger and acquisition activity in the industry … large brands that have cash sitting on the side lying in their corporate coffers — which are a lot of brands out there — are impatient. It takes time to build a loyal audience, so a lot of these large brands are saying, ‘I don’t want to wait that long.’ They are going to go out and buy blogger sites, influencer sites and media companies.”
