Holiday 2015 Already Under Way
Retailers are already sending marketing messages to consumers for Holiday 2015 and those who aren’t are already behind, reports ChannelAdvisor (opens as a PDF). In the “2015 Online Retail Survey” announced on Monday, ChannelAdvisor says 59 percent of retailers are starting holiday promotions this month or sooner.
Part of the reason for this early start may be that “34 percent [of retailers] said fulfilling orders on time is their biggest challenge during the holidays.” A plurality of the marketers told Redshift Research, commissioned by ChannelAdvisor to send email invitations to retailers to take the online survey, that they plan to name Dec. 20 as the cutoff day to guarantee on-time Christmas deliveries.
“All survey respondents were e-commerce decision makers for their respective companies,” according to the research.
This early start is a continuing trend, ChannelAdvisor says.
“2014 brought earlier holiday promotions than previous years, and retailers that didn’t prepare for this trend lost out to their competitors,” the survey finds.
U.S. marketers tell ChannelAdvisor that Black Friday is their most profitable day; Amazon performs best for them, bringing in more than double the sales of their own e-commerce sites; and 74 percent of respondents say 20 percent or more of their annual sales arrive during the holidays.
