eMarketer: Social Networking Advertising to Reach 6.9 Percent of Ad Spend by 2011
As rumors persist that Microsoft is in talks to take a major stake in Facebook, marketing pundits are asking if the social networking phenom could be worth the $10 billion to $15 billion it would be valued at.
How much are marketers spending now in the social networking arena?
Social networking advertising spending is growing fast. eMarketer expects it to reach 6.9 percent of total U.S. online ad spend by 2011. But advertising spending for all social networks in the U.S. was only $350 million in 2006. And, online ad spending is expected to reach just $2.5 billion by 2011.
Still, few would bet against Microsoft staking a claim in the future of the Internet.
