The Next Generation of E-Commerce
The times, they are a changing. But aren't they always? True, but today, we're at the forefront of a digital revolution. "Change or die," they say, but it's not always the easiest to make out what changes are for the best. While we already know "mobile first" and other common strategies to best adapt to the rising tide, there's a fundamental shift in the way that commerce is changing in response to a generation that's growing up digital.
A new infographic and report from Acquity Group has some great insight into the way things are changing, and what's for the best. Acquity Group surveyed more than 2,000 American consumers, and some interesting trends emerged from the results.
The survey revealed that "consumers like to see what they get — and get it quickly." Respondents noted that third-party delivery services are ubiquitous at this point — 73 percent had used a service such as GrubHub. There's still a ways left to go, however. Only 46 percent had taken advantage of expedited delivery from a third-party service, and 51 percent had used in-store pickup, barely a majority.
"Increased delivery transparency and faster shipping speeds could help retailers and brands gain new customers and boost loyalty," says the report. "Going the extra mile and offering features like these to your customers is never a bad thing, and going above and beyond what's commonly expected will only help to win loyalty and return customers."
