The New World of Healthcare Marketing
Kimberly Whitler: Are the key drivers of the shift in consumer-driven healthcare the same internationally as we have seen in the U.S.?
Steven Weultjes: The seismic shift of the U.S. healthcare industry is not unique. Internationally, the time for change in healthcare has come and we’re starting to see large demographic and technological changes. Governments are responding through their legislative powers. Importantly, this year marks a fundamental shift for the world's advanced economies. The working age population is beginning to decline, for the first time since 1950.
We’re also seeing a dramatic increase in the population aged 65 and over. The average age in Japan is projected to be 53 by 2050. Japan is an outlier, but the advanced world is headed down the same track.
