As a rabid Stanley Kubrick fan I’m probably going to share this ad with everyone I know, thanks to its 2001: A Space Odyssey visual references. But will I buy the ice cream? Nope. I live in a town with an awesome locally owned ice cream shop that sources local ingredients. One more thing, did they ADD age spots to that nice lady? When are we going to stop looking at aging as something that’s supposed to suck? Sheesh.

Aging DOES suck. Anyone who has been involved in the care of their aging parents (or watched their own parents have to do so for grandparents) will find this commercial so disturbing that overall ice cream sales could plummet. Fortunately, the spot fails to impress upon the viewer the brand, so Halo is safe from backlash on that score.

Yeah, no. I know exactly who this commercial would appeal to, its the “bro” audience, who believe they will always be young and healthy enough to not give a flying patootie about themselves or anyone else getting old. While they would laugh, the products that goes with that audience is ice cream flavors of beer and arsenic, not one so angelically named Halo. I could have written them one with cockney accented englishers ringing people on their mobile devices saying “Halo?” over and over. Then the pints would need a different font. Still, the marketers failed to identify their customer before going ahead with this idea, since I do not believe they really thought to target the sarcastic sports bro market for this product.

At least they didn’t use the Papyrus font!
