1. Keep up with the times. There are trends in every industry, and knowing those trends is just as important in social media as it is to the rest of your business. If you are continuously sharing content that is not relevant to the trends in your industry, you are not likely to see a lot of clicks. Trends, for better or for worse, are a huge driving factor in a lot of decisions that are made by the public. If your content shares pertinent and interesting information relating to a trend in your industry, you are more likely to receive a click on your link.
2. Use titles. A title serves a great purpose in social media posts: It gives your followers a good idea about what they are about to read if they click your link. Posting a link without some kind of title is essentially a wasted post. When you post a link without a title, it looks like a spam message and you will likely get a number of notes from followers who have not opened your link to tell you that you have been hacked. Posting a link with a catchy title that gives your followers a good indication of what they will find if they click the link will gain you more clicks.
3. Be altruistic. Posting links to your blog posts and to your website are good and expected, as long as the content you share is useful. If you are only ever linking to your blog and website, some of your followers may come to realize that your posts are primarily self-serving. By occasionally linking to relevant content outside of your own website or blog, you are fulfilling your image as an expert in the field, as experts must occasionally look to other sources for information and news. On that note, it is important that the content you share really is helpful to your followers, and not entirely self-serving.
