Nuts & Bolts : Study: Stop Stalling, Optimize MobileOctober 2013 By Heather Fletcher
Read this research with only one tip in mind, marketers: Mobile-optimize your websites now.
"Almost a third of website traffic now comes from mobile devices, up 73 percent from a year ago," reads the Aug. 14 announcement about the "Q2 2013 Mobile Website Traffic Report."
Many consumers now use their mobile devices as the primary way to browse the Web, according to the study put out by Chicago-based public relations and marketing agency Walker Sands.
So, yes, marketers have been hearing for years that mobile marketing matters and have been annoyed equally as long waiting for the evidence. Nearly a third of Web traffic may still not move them, but the study has a few more statistics that may:
• Client website traffic coming from mobile devices rose 244 percent in the second quarter of 2013 vs. the same period in 2011.
• Traffic coming from iPhones increased significantly year over year to 43 percent of mobile traffic, up 12 percent from the second quarter in 2012, while traffic from every other device and operating system declined, including iPad (15 percent), Android (40 percent) and BlackBerry (1 percent).
