The Direct Marketing Association today announced the immediate resignation of President & CEO John A. Greco, Jr. The news comes almost three months to the day after the association headed off a proxy fight led by board member Gerry Pike during DMA09.

The association has organized a search committee to find a replacement for Greco, and will name an interim president and CEO in the near future.

“As we enter into the new decade and are anticipating an economic resurgence, it’s more important than ever to ensure that both traditional and digital multichannel direct marketing is at the forefront of that recovery,” said Eugene Raitt, Chairman of the DMA Board of Directors, in a prepared statement. “Bringing in new leadership to the management team focusing on the areas we intend to grow will be part of that process. The committee will conduct an aggressive search, and I’m confident that we will find an exceptionally qualified individual to fulfill the DMA’s vision and goals.”

Quite shocking news really! I thought that the battle over compensation for the CEO was legitimate, for a non-profit association that we all pay for I thought the CEO salary was excessive, but I never expected such decisive and swift action by the DMA.

It will now be interesting to see who is brought in, and what their compensation looks like.
